48 Hours in Miami

January 3, 2020

Miami, Florida, is always a great getaway, full of good food, delish drinks and pristine beaches. And, with the city seeing a cultural resurgence in the last few years (thank Art Basel), as well as burgeoning neighbourhoods like Wynwood and the Design District, there’s plenty to fill a 48-hour visit. —Alice Chen

stay. With an outdoor pool and a sun deck on the seventh floor, Grand Beach Hotel provides plenty of options to stay—and lay out. Plus, check out the resort’s private section on a more-secluded stretch of Miami Beach; just park yourself on a lounger for the day and tan your troubles away (don’t forget the SPF).

savour. Bodega Taqueria y Tequila—a funky food joint with graffiti-ed walls in a converted auto shop—serves delicious Mexican street food and, via a meat-locker-door entrance, includes a two-level lounge-slash-club serving tequila-based drinks and Bartender’s Choice cocktails. For dessert, head to Wynwood’s 1-800-Lucky Asian-themed food hall for Taiyaki NYC’s infamous soft serve in a signature fish-shaped cone.

sip. Rooftop (read 40th-floor) Sugar serves Asian-inspired cocktails like Sacred Lotus or Road to Bangkok alongside jaw-dropping panoramic views. For non-alc drinks, multiple Miami locations of Joe & the Juice offers smoothies, juices, acai bowls and a distinctly cool vibe.

see. Right in the heart of South Beach, Artechouse currently has “Infinite Space” on exhibit, which aims to challenge your perception of endless possibilities via cool onstallations like an LED light tunnel. Or, head to the trendy Design District, where ICA Miami is a free contemporary art museum. More into outdoor art exploration? The hip hood of Wynwood includes a sprawling collection of local street art, free for the looking.
