We may think of the microwave as the underdog of kitchen appliances, but our friends at Tabasco® are determined to prove us wrong! Contrary to popular belief, microwaving actually maximizes nutrients thanks to the speedy cooking time and, far from being bland, microwaved meals can be easily injected with a blast of flavour with delicious Tabasco® sauces! The Tabasco Green sauce gives dishes a zesty, fresh flavour, and the Tabasco Chipotle has a smoky flavour that’s perfect for meats and sauces. Both are milder than the Tabasco® original, which, of course, everyone loves (it’s a constant in our own condiments collection).
Need more proof? Tabasco® has teamed up with with mom-of-two and popular La Petite Bette food blogger Manon Lapierre to create five delicious, quick and über-easy microwave recipes, from chicken enchiladas to jalapeño lemon and lime squares. All can be made in under 20 minutes and require minimal clean-up, including the following recipe for one-pot microwave un-fried rice, which uses only one dish—no need for loads of dishes to clean after!
One-Pot Microwave Un-fried Rice
1 cup (225 g) Jasmine rice, rinsed and drained
1 garlic clove, minced
1 tsp. (3.6 g) fresh ginger, minced
2 Tbsp. (30 mL) soy sauce
2 tsp. (10 mL) Tabasco® Green sauce
2 cups (500 mL) chicken or vegetable broth
1 carrot, diced
1 celery branch, diced
1/4 cup (37.5 g) frozen peas
2 eggs, beaten
1 Tbsp. (100 g) Sesame seeds
Chopped green onions, to taste
2 Tbsp. (30 mL) toasted sesame oil + 1 tsp (5mL) for serving
For the crust, microwave 1/2 cup butter and mix together with graham Combine all ingredients (except eggs, 1 teaspoon of sesame oil, sesame seeds and green onion). Cover and cook on HIGH for 10 minutes. Remove cover and cook for another 3 minutes, uncovered at HIGH. Add beaten eggs, combine and cook for 1 minute, on HIGH, uncovered. Fluff with a fork, add a teaspoon of roasted sesame oil. Serve with toasted sesame seeds, chopped green onions and Tabasco® sauce.
