Hi Bree! Please tell us a bit about yourself to start.
Hi! I am the content creator behind The Urban Umbrella, a lifestyle and beauty blog. I also work full-time in marketing. I started my blog back in 2011 so I’ve been blogging for about 10 years now, which is pretty wild to think about! Aside from that, I am a cat mom to two little rascals (shout out to Holly & Ollie!), I love a good home decor DIY, and I am an avid hiker. Last spring and summer I spent all my weekends trying out new hiking trails and tackling new home projects; while the home projects are still well underway, I can’t wait for it to be spring so I can get back to hiking!
How do you use your platform to impact those who follow you?
My goal with my blog has always been to create a fun space where people can find relatable beauty, style and lifestyle content. While I share beauty and style tips, tutorials, reviews, I also like to keep things real and share the not so glamorous sides of life: the recipe fails, the home reno mishaps, and even the truly hard times like we’ve all experienced this last year with COVID-19. I really hope that my platform is a place where people can find inspiration and ideas but in a relatable and real way.
What’s your personal style mantra/philosophy?
Comfort is key! I love being adventurous with my style and beauty choices but I am never one to wear anything I am not 100 per cent comfortable in. If anyone ever tells you that you have to sacrifice comfort for style, don’t believe them.
Happy Valentine’s Day! Who’s your favourite person and what’s your favourite way to celebrate?
Happy Valentine’s Day, everyone! My favourite person has to be my husband, and I am excited to celebrate Valentine’s Day with him. My favourite way to celebrate is just spending quality time together. In years passed, we’ve celebrated by going to restaurants for lovely meals, done small weekend trips, and we’ve also gone the simpler route of staying in and trying out a new recipe together over a bottle of wine. The most important part is the time we get to enjoy together.
What’s your fave type of Valentine’s gift to give?
I have always enjoyed giving experience-based gifts so that we can do something together and create a new memory. I had thought a wine and painting bar could be fun to go to this year, but with the COVID-19 restrictions in place, we may just have to make our own wine and painting bar at home!
What’s your top pink gift/product pick for Valentine’s Day this year?
I’m a bit of a skin-care junkie and since the winter is so tough on my skin, I really like to step up my routine during these cooler months. A few months ago, I started using the Glow Recipe Watermelon + AHA Glow Sleeping Mask ($59 at Sephora) and I am obsessed with it. It is great on my super sensitive skin and keeps it looking moisturized and fresh. If there’s someone special in your life who loves skin care, then they will adore this!
