Top 4 Menstrual Cups To Try Now

September 24, 2021

Menstrual cups are the “new” must-have product for women. Why? For a number of reasons. A cup better for the environment than standard sanitary pads and tampons (one menstrual cup can be used up to a year or more), it’s easier (you put it in the morning and it can stay in all day long—no more changing out sanitary products throughout the day), it’s way more economical (one menstrual cup costs around $30-$50, as opposed to the hundreds you may spend every year on other items like pads and tampons), and it won’t dry you out (like tampons might). If you’re thinking of making the change over to menstrual cups, here are four that are easy to use and super effective. —Jennifer Cox

Divacup. The DivaCup has been around for almost two decades and comes in three sizes based on your age. It’s made from durable, top quality, medical-grade silicone and can be worn for up to 12 consecutive hours, depending on your flow. It should be emptied, washed, and rinsed a minimum of two to three times per 24-hour period. The pioneer of menstrual cups, “DivaCuppers” describe themselves as advocates, period warriors, and environmentally focused citizens, as well as innovators, disrupters, and boundary-pushers.

luna cup. The Luna Cup, which comes in two sizes depending on whether you’ve had a vaginal birth or not, is made from soft, durable, hypo-allergenic, medical-grade silicone, and is a healthy and environmentally friendly alternative to tampons and pads. Luna Cups are non-absorbent so they can be left in place for up to 12 hours with no risk of Toxic Shock Syndrome. They are also very easy to insert and remove.

nixit. Nixit is a suction-free, reusable, BPA-free menstrual cup that stays in naturally and holds up to four tampons worth (70ml) of blood, meaning you can confidently wear it for hours at a time. And these cups can last up to five years, meaning you’ll definitely save loads of money on monthly sanitary products.

aisle. Aisle menstrual cups can be worn up to 12 hours and come in two sizes, or you can sample their trial pack to get started. These cups are free of BPA and latex, and they are manufactured right here in Canada. They are easy to remove, clean, and reinsert.
