Suffice it to say, the way we travel has changed. As we get used to a new jet-setting norm, we sat down with Stéphanie Beaudry, vice-president of sales and product development at luxe luggage-maker Bugatti Collections—an avid traveller herself—to talk about what we can expect the next time we take off. —Noa Nichol
Hi Stéphanie! Please tell us a bit about yourself to start.
I am truly passionate about travel. I’ve been in the luggage industry for more than eight years! I lived in China for five years and travelled the world with my three children from a very young age!
It’s been a tough two years for travel; do you think people are finally ready to jet set again?
People are definitely ready to jet set again! So am I!!! Not only have people had enough of not dressing up, they are ready to travel and show off their new luggage.
As restrictions ease and the world opens back up, where are Canadians most eager to travel to?
I think the first destinations are the beaches; somehow, people feel safer by the beach. After the lockdowns, we need air, sun and joy!
In terms of packing, considering the “new normal” of the world, what are some new items we should take with us when we go?
Hmmm let me think … masks??!! I’ve been travelling for few months now and the only must have I would say is masks.
It’s tempting these days to travel with just a carry-on; what are the pros and cons of packing light, and can you make a case for checking our bags?
You are talking to THE carry-on pro! I travelled to China for 10 days with carry-on only. It often takes very long to get your check-in luggage at arrival, or they could be lost and arrive late (which happened to me for a jet-set weekend in New York! On a direct flight on top of it!) and if you are multiple people travelling together, car transportation becomes an issue! Pro tip for light packing: mosthotels have next-day laundry service.
What’s trending in terms of luggage these days?
Hard-side luggage, colours, quality! Luggage is becoming a fashion accessory; people buy luggage to complete their look!
Your top packing tips?
PACKING CUBES! I am obsessed with them! Being organized and packing versatile clothes that have easy care. Do not overpack! I am sure a lot of people will agree, we never use half of what we pack!
Final, personal question: what travel destination is next on your bucket list?
Japan with my boys. I’ve been twice already but never with them. I am all about living experiences with my sons and I want to live this one with them: ski trip in Japan (Kyoto and Tokyo). They are into skiing and anime; Japan is the ideal destination for them!
