Ever wonder how fitness and International Women’s Day intersect? Fitness World—the high-value, low-cost B.C.-based gym with 16 locations across the Lower Mainland—wants to make the connection clearer, and is hosting a panel to help us all better embrace equity in the wellness space.
On March 8, 2023, Fitness World will host an #EmbracingEquity panel featuring leading women in the wellness space, like motivational lifestyle and body-positive influencer Charlotte Elizabeth, Fitness World director of classes Ingrid Knight-Cohee, non-binary pro triathlete Rach McBride and Saschie MacLean, owner of Formation Studio. Guided by podcast host May Globus, the discussion will touch on important gender-equality issues across the fitness, wellness and sports industries, individuals’ experiences in breaking barriers, career advice to support the next generation of female leaders and ways to take action. After the talk, there will be a special, high-energy workout involving all guests and panelists!
“We are thrilled to be hosting our second annual IWD event”, says Hannah Ungar, marketing director at Fitness World. “We are committed to forging a path for positive visibility for women in the wellness space and, while there is more work to be done, we are proud of our journey and our continued learning. We look forward to an evening of meaningful discussion, inspiration, and of course a fun workout which will preview our new Tempo Strength class.”
With more than 500 employees, the club offers an inclusive workplace and prioritizes internal programs that help women advance. It’s committed to hiring diverse talent, has a gender-balanced leadership, offers a flexible work schedule to cater to different peoples’ needs (e.g., childcare, maternity and paternity leave), and regularly hosts interactive peer-mentorship groups and activities.
Want to attend this special event? Spots at the panel discussion and workout can be snagged through giveaways hosted on Fitness World’s social media channels (Instagram and Facebook), as well as the panelists’ and moderator’s channels. Plus, other IWD celebrations are in the works; watch for workshops through the month of March at Fitness World’s Cambie, Semiahmoo, Georgia and Lougheed locations.
When it comes to #EmbracingEquity, we’re glad to see that Fitness World doesn’t just talk the talk—it walks the walk, too. —Vita Daily
